Gosh, judging by your responses to the Adagio giveaway, you lot do enjoy your tea! There are still a few hours left in which you can enter, if you haven't done so already. Good luck! Meanwhile, the crochet Christmas tree seemed to be the most popular of the tea cosies that I designed, so I've written up the pattern for that, and I'll post it below, for FREE! This is the fellow:- It fits a standard two-cup teapot. (You could always scale up or down with larger or smaller yarn and hook if you Continue Reading
The Crochet Cottage Bag Pattern!
Well, here it is, at last. The pattern. The pattern... for the crochet house shoulder-bag that I designed. It's been a while coming. Would you like to make one? It's not that hard, honest, just a little fiddly around the windows. But I've explained everything in the pattern. And if you run into any problems, you can always give me a shout. I'm really very, very excited about this thing. Sometimes a crazy idea in your head just works. And it's free! :-) So without further ado, shall we Continue Reading
Crochet Crocodile Stitch Photo Tutorial
One of the crochet stitches that's important for the house bag is the crocodile stitch. Look, here it is, used for the roof of the house, which forms the flap for the bag:- It's not difficult but it looks fancy, and it's a stitch that works well for scarves. Since you work the scales one-at-a-time, it can carry a variegated yarn quite well, more so than - say - a granny square, which can get weirdly splodgy in a variegated yarn. Just don't make an entire cardigan in this stitch, Continue Reading
The Bag Lady
The crochet house-bag-thingummy is done! Want to see it? (Please say 'yes'. Or at least, 'Oh all right then, if I absolutely must.') I began construction of the crochet house around the same time that men in big boots and hard hats arrived round here to build far too many new houses on the periphery of our previously lovely village and buy up all the best sandwiches from the village shop for their lunch each day. And I can now report that building a house takes a couple of months, regardless of Continue Reading
Monsieur Frog, We Meet Again (And Again)
Ah, Monsieur Frog, I see you're here yet again. Do you have to visit us so very frequently? Yup, that's - ribbit - the sound of - ribbit - another crocheted swatch being reduced to heaps of wiggly raw yarn. Sigh. Ribbit. Actually, I don't especially mind, because it's fun creating summat from nowt, and I'm relishing the experience of shaping and refining this *new* idea for a crochet project. I want it to be right, more than I want it to be speedy, and assuming it works out, I'll happily Continue Reading
*hums* Never Smile At A Crocodile…
...cos you can't get friendly with a crocodile... *here endeth the hum* Sorry, bad habit, humming. Sometimes, since having children, I've caught myself walking down the ward at work humming 'Row, row, row your boat'. Not very professional, is it? Anyway, back to the crocodiles. TheTwistedYarn, the Toddler Twinnage, the Stoic Spouse, and the in-progress Arne and Carlos blanket have been on (a very short) tour. Look! Here we are, pottering through the Oxfordshire countryside in the cool autumn Continue Reading
