The Katia Azteca has arrived! Wheeee! It feels surprisingly light and soft. But I chose it because of its rich colour variegation… and the need to not spend completely insane amounts on yarn that is, after all, just for a picture. So now I can begin the header for this blog. Today I knitted a quick swatch – nothing to do with gauge because it’s not as though I’ll be wearing the thing – but I was worried about whether background and foreground are sufficiently in contrast. All I can say is… hmmmm. Here’s the swatch and the yarn (shades 7826 and 7829):-

I love the colours. If you plunge your fingers into, say, a yellow bit of the ball, you might find a rich seam of turquoise. And a purple area might be hiding a delicious green. But why all the pink? So many darkish variegated yarns insist on including PINK. Even rainbow yarns sometimes err towards pink rather than red at that end of the spectrum. Lots of people like pink, I get that. But many of us don’t.
Anyway, to the swatch. Dark bits of background yarn too dark so I’m tempted to cheat and hack them out. Is that allowed? Will the knitting police come round and arrest me for Violation Of Yarn offences?
IN OTHER NEWS…
The fern-covered cushion for the Victorian box settle has become a between-times project for when I’m on a train or away from home. It’s 80% done. I did some on the train to Mumsnet Blogfest yesterday. Here it is on my lap:-
…and I even knitted on the London Underground, too.

Worst picture ever, but (i) I was trying to be surreptitious, and (ii) I took the photo on my ancient phone, a piece of technology that was carved out of wood in about 1920. But I just wanted to prove that I’d knitted bracken on the Tube.
The Mumsnet Blogfest itself was so wonderful that I didn’t knit a single stitch the entire time I was there. 🙂
AND the miniature knitted me+MrTwistedYarn+Twinnage for the ‘about’ page is nearly done! I’m embroiled in dungarees at the moment, with 2mm needles and DK yarn – yeek! Don’t want to spoil the surprise by posting before it’s done. I’m not usually a toy knitter, and had no idea that these tiny things could take so long. Honestly, I could have whipped up a fair isle skirt in half the time.
Love the Katia Azteca but I totally know what you mean about pink. I get so cross looking for boy friendly multi-coloured yarn. i find a nice green/brown colourway or similar and then they go and stick a load of pink in! Grrrrrrrr… Looking forward to seeing the header 🙂
