The dark blue is done! (Are you new to this marathon-length saga of crochet? I’m referring to this.) The end of the rainbow is nigh. I nearly have a giant rainbow stained glass window afghan with which to cover my scruffy old sofa, or possibly a wall, or possibly both because it’s so damn big, and I am more than a little cheery about this little fact. There is only some sewing-in, then some black, then some purple, then some more black, left to go.
Most of the afghan has been worked in one piece, round and round (and round), endlessly flicking from black to colour to black to colour, and thus leaving a million or so ends in need of weaving in, that’ll make me cry, nay weep, further down the line. But just a few of the colours comprise heptagons that are made separately and then sewn into place. Dark blue is one of these. I have just crocheted 32 heptagons. Thirty-two is actually quite a big number. Look!

And look!

Now to sew them in. And then to finish the afghan for the big reveal. Because what I really need to be showing you is my yarn-bombed house, which is very much in progress…
Very jealous of your patience and looking forward to the big reveal!!
But I’m so IMpatient: that’s why I’m furiously working on the flippin’ thing, to get it done! But thank you, anyway.
I hope that the reveal will not be before Saturday — the kidlets will be in their own home then and I will have time to examine it at my leisure. ? can’t wait!
Definitely not. Hardly any time for crochet on Thursdays and Fridays. (Whaddya mean, I have to work for a living?!) I reckon it’ll be a couple more weeks before I’m done. Hope you’ve been having lots of fun with the kidlets?
Yes, thanks but we’re really out of steam now. ? they’ll be back next weekend for a birthday celebration . Son and DIL are aboard their flight to Seoul on their long journey home. Can’t wait! ?
Awwwww… enjoy. 🙂
I’m so excited to realise the great reveal is quite close, can’t wait
So near…. and yet so far… Each colour of course takes soooo much longer as I work my way outwards.
You have crocheted this rainbow at amazing speed! I am so looking forward to your big reveal. As for millions of ends on the back, could you recruit anyone to help you? Maybe bribe them with wine and chocolate?
Hmm, bribery sounds like an idea…. Maybe I could teach the Toddler Twinnage to do it (although I possibly shouldn’t use wine as a bribe for them…)
I can’t wait to see it.
Thank you. I can’t wait to see it done, because I’m getting a little project-weary now.
Gorgeous!
Thank you! 🙂
I just love the blue and black together. What a stunning combination. They look so great laid out I top of the mosaic table(?). Looking very much forward to the big reveal as others are. BUT what a teaser you are about yarn bombing, so now want to see that too!!!!
Thank you! All these projects take so long, so I don’t get many ‘ta-da’ moments! Wish I could work as fast as you do. Your raindrop pattern crochet cushion on your blog is absolutely beautiful. And I’m so impressed that Lucy came and admired it!
Wow! You have been busy! Looks great! 🙂
Thank you. 🙂
The suspense builds, as we await the unveiling of your creativity! 🙂 ❤
Thank you!
Beautiful shade of blue!
Thank you. Yes, it is quite intense. More so than the other colours in the rainbow.
Isn’t that blue just stunning – they look so beautiful laid out on the table – I might be tempted just to leave them there forever 🙂 The link is working for me at the minute so I shall try again later – and please, don’t cry – or weep – the end result is going to be worth the hundreds of hours and cramping fingers. I am practising waiting patiently over on another blog, so will add you to my list 🙂
Thank you! You’re very kind – as always. 🙂
Splendid! The blue is very relaxing, my favourite colour indeed. I’m dying to see the finished result
Thank you. Yes it’s quite a nice shade. It’s Rico Design Creative Cotton Aran, in the colour ‘Royal’ (039). Available from Deramores.
I am so jealous. Not only will the afghan soon be finished but also the yarnbombing? I still haven’t even thought about how to decorate our ugly window. Anyway, I can’t wait to see both results.
Yarn-bombing still very very much in progress. So many projects, so little time… I hope you DO ornament your window… and post lots of pictures on your blog.
they look just gorgeous!
Thank you! I finally finished those pesky popcorn stitches that I was moaning about whilst you were here!
Yes that is a lot, I imagine the start to get a little boring after a while. They should look good when added.
Actually it got quite relaxing and hypnotic after a while, mindlesslessly turning them out, especially after a stressful day at work!
I know what you mean , I have a black & rainbow giant granny square for days like that.
I can’t wait for the big reveal! The few tastes we’ve gotten are just beyond stunning (and they also remind me I should get moving on the afghans that I’m working on!). Can’t wait to see it all together!
Thank you – you’re very kind. And I’m very impressed that you’re working on MULTIPLE afghans! I’m looking forward to seeing them all finished!
Very much looking forward to seeing the finished product–and the yarn bombed house!
Thank you. Wish I could speed up a bit, but I’m doing my best.
lovely
Thank you. 🙂
Oh ! I am feeling all greeeen 😀 with envy !!! What a big pile of heptagons ! I can imagine the effort that has gone into it….I did a 50 granny square afghan for my daughter’s bed and it took forever.
I am wondering at the size of your masterpiece …it could cover an entire wall I guess 🙂 That would look stunning !!!
Fifty grannies… That’s a LOT. I’m deeply impressed, and I bet it’s beautiful?
you can find it here http://youngatfifty.wordpress.com/2013/01/22/a-labour-of-love/
but it stands no comparison to your masterpiece in the making !! I admire your patience, perseverance and the speed with which you have progressed in this marathon 🙂
Gorgeous colour
