Hello, you fine, fibrous folk. Would you like a free pattern, for the hat that I designed for Mother Twisted?
The pattern is only one-size, I’m afraid, but it’s a fairly forgiving beast, and if you’re a medium-to-large-headed adult, then this thing will fit you. Have fun, and do let me know if there are any problems with the pattern. It’s knitted in the round with a bit of stranded work, and it knits up surprisingly quickly. (Well, it surprised me anyway, but then, I absolutely jumped out of my skin this morning when I came round the corner and bumped into my own husband in our own house, so I guess I just surprise easily.)
HERE IS A LINK TO THE PATTERN! I hope it brings you joy. And warmth.
Meanwhile, because there’s never much else to say in a here’s-a-free-pattern post, here are a few shots from our trip down to the south coast yesterday – Bournemouth, to be precise. It was as pretty as it was FREEZING COLD!
Like, really, really cold.

Did I mention that it was cold? OK, if you’re reading this from the eastern edge of North America, then (i) you’re probably laughing at my pathetic definition of ‘cold’, (ii) congratulations on still having power and internet, and (iii) I hope you’re surviving the mega-freeze intact.
Here’s one more shot of yesterday’s loveliness, with a little bit of twinnage standing there in the middle:-
I probably should have brought a hat with me:-
Happy Monday, people.
Phil x
I like the simple and superb hat pattern.
That is a beautiful hat and I’d like to thank you for the pattern. I have never tried the two color thing, but this looks like a good one to start. I just love the look.
Unfortunately I can’t see your pictures, even though I’m now subscribed to Follow you. When I was unsubscribed I could see some of them. Today – a blue question mark, apart from the last, which does show.
However the ‘link’ to your hat pattern turned into a download. So thanks for that.
It’s probably something at my end. It usually is! I claim no Tech Skillz at all. Just an ability to comment, occasionally.
Hmm, I’m not sure why this is. (You and I might just be the blind-leading-the-blind, technologically speaking!) I do reduce my photo file size to help them load easily. I’m sorry that I really have no idea what to suggest, but next time I see my techie friend, I will ask her. Best wishes, Phil
Thank you very much for this pattern, I shall be busy making a few of these I suspect, I have 2daughters, 5 granddaughters and I like working with Stylecraft yarn
Pattern won’t allow any download but Office, which I don’t have, and they want you to buy! No thanks! Doesn’t give options for opening in anything else. Nice pattern!
Hi Sharon, and THANK YOU for bringing this to my attention. My silly mistake – I forgot to convert the file to a pdf before uploading it. I’ve done that now, so you should be able to view the pattern as a pdf, without having to buy Office.Thank you and sorry in equal measure. Best wishes, Phil x
You surprise easily!! Too funny!! I love your writing style and storytelling!
Amazing! Thank you! May the British Landscape with be covered with “Elisabeth Hats”
Elizabeth 😉
Thank-you for the pattern and thank-you for writing such an enjoyable to read blog.
Thank you Phil for making the pattern free. I loved it when you first posted it so I am excited that I will have one of my own. My sister in law and I are traveling to England,Scotland and Ireland in September/October so we can attend Yarndale, craft festival in the Shetland and knitting retreats in Hebrides and Ireland. I might just get the chance to wear it then. I’ll have to keep an eye out for others wearing the same design ????x
I agree with Anne Marie – I actually burst into laughter at your description of bumping into your own husband, etc. You are definitely one of my favorite persons. Bless you.
Beautiful photos!!
While I did not actually have a minute to download it until this evening, it made my morning very happy when I saw that you were giving us your beautiful hat pattern. Thank you.
A lovely hat which I can’t wait to make. Thank you. Lovely pics too.
You’re very welcome. I’m glad you like it. Do give me a shout if there are any issues with the pattern.
I love your blog, and having a daughter called Elisabeth (or ‘Elizabeth pronounced with the s’ as I spent a lot of time saying, before shortening it to Beth to save my sanity) I particularly like this pattern.
Thank you. Yes, Elisabeth does seem to be an unusual spelling in this country, and my Mum, after whom the pattern is named, also spends her time specifying Elisabeth-with-an-s. Sigh. I guess you understand the problem!
Spectacular photos! Cold or not, I’d like to be in Bournemouth right now. The hat and scarf are lovely. Thank you very much.
