Just got home from a really intense work-day down the psychology mines, only to discover these wonderful socks that the ever-awesome @buttonspickles knitted for me. They are very beautiful and very cosy, and the yarn is the colourway that I designed for Stylecraft, i.e. Head Over Heels in the shade 'Saltaire'. (I don't think Stylecraft sells it any more.) But these socks are just perfect and I love them and I'm feeling very grateful for my friends. ❤

Today I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I'm fine, and looking on the bright side, I now have the perfect excuse to lounge on the sofa and knit even more than usual for the next few months. 😁 Normal silliness and yarniness will continue both here and on the blog, because that's just how I roll. Also, DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA HOW DIFFICULT IT IS TO CROCHET A BREAST TUMOUR?! I mean, viruses look kinda cute and quirky under the microscope, but breast cancers are just BLOBS. So... I will not be releasing a pattern for this rather rubbish piece of crochet.

Yesterday, there was a knock on the door. My yarny friend @mandy_reid_art is an artist, and little did I know that she'd been busy painting a portrait of Robyn-the-robin. So when she turned up with the finished work as a gift, I was so overwhelmed with surprise and gratitude that I hardly knew what to say. It's beautiful. It catches her perfectly - sweet but cheeky and feisty. I knew immediately which image Mandy had used as inspiration. The painting is now hanging up in pride of place, and I'm one very happy, grateful, woman. Mandy takes commissions, by the way. Just sayin'...

Eight years ago today, I started thetwistedyarn.com. It was just a place to talk (and talk) about knitting. Gradually it became a place to photograph knitting and wildlife, too... and garden stuff, which led to the @the.twisted.garden page. Little did I know that my blog would lead to meeting you creative, witty, wonderful lot, plus a book deal, and some treasured real-life friends, a quarterly column in 'Simply Knitting' magazine, membership of the Stylecraft Blogstars, a TV appearance, and plenty else besides.
.
If you're thinking of starting a blog, I have one very important piece of advice: DO IT!
.
(I wheel this photo out almost every year. It's the cake that the Stoic Spouse commissioned for my first blogiversary. It was delicious as well as beautiful, but unsubtle hints have thus far failed to persuade him to bake or order any further bloggy gateaux.)

Hello far-too-lovely folk. This one's about Robyn-the-robin. I haven't seen her for quite a while... and the last few times she visited, she really looked her age. Sorry to be the bearer of probably-bad news, but I think she's gone forever. 😢 And much as I like to think my heart is cold and impregnable, I really, really, REALLY miss her bold and cheeky attitude. I loved her more than was probably wise.
