A friend and I are making nettle yarn, and one of the stages is to 'bake' the nettle stems for a few hours. Given this quantity of nettles, I would have needed to keep the oven on for a week! So here's my solution. It's 32°C out there today, and if I leave the car in the sun, I reckon it'll get more than hot enough. Fingers crossed.

What I didn't know was that my friend Jo has been secretly making an absolutely perfect model of Robyn-the-robin. Look what appeared on my doorstep yesterday! ❤️ I can only imagine how many hours must have gone in to all that embroidery. (Jo did admit that she has calluses on her hands as a result!) In the autumn, one of the twinnage (aged 9) asked whether we could plant some conkers and grow a horse chestnut tree in the middle of the lawn. Look what's just germinated! Cue delighted child! If you saw the size of our garden, you'd understand why I'm really keen to plant these out SOMEWHERE ELSE when the time comes.

Today I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I'm fine, and looking on the bright side, I now have the perfect excuse to lounge on the sofa and knit even more than usual for the next few months. 😁 Normal silliness and yarniness will continue both here and on the blog, because that's just how I roll. Also, DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA HOW DIFFICULT IT IS TO CROCHET A BREAST TUMOUR?! I mean, viruses look kinda cute and quirky under the microscope, but breast cancers are just BLOBS. So... I will not be releasing a pattern for this rather rubbish piece of crochet.

So, a thing happened. Yesterday, I found this small metal disk whilst digging the garden. Clearly old, a little strange. Thanks to a contact from a helpful friend, I emailed the Finds Officer at our local archaeology service. Didn't expect a speedy response, but I guess a lot of his usual work is on hold. Here's what he said: My first impression is that you have a Medieval to Post Medieval (AD 1200 - 1800) lead token. The date range on these is huge because we get lots of them and they vary a huge amount in form! They can be used for lots of different purposes, as gaming counters, weights, trade tokens and more.
