Oh, hello covid. I've been expecting you. Well it was going to happen some time, wasn't it? (There is positivity later in this post, I promise. I'm conscious from comments on the previous post that many of you have quite understandably Had Enough Of This Excrement. And so I want to lighten the mood. Keep going, friends, I'll get silly again in a few paragraphs' time.) Briefly, back to the Covid. This invisible thing, this murderous and disabling psychopath that's been threatening everyone Continue Reading
Knitting. Also, Cake.
Ah, there you are! Good to see you. Come in, come in, bring your yarnery-in-progress and sit here beside the fire. This blog post contains both knitting and cake. Let's begin the yarn. I've been designing. And knitting. I should've been doing other things, but I just couldn't help it. If you've hung around here for more than about three seconds, then it won't surprise you to know that what I'm making involves stranded colourwork… and freshwater life... and geology. These are three of the Continue Reading
What They Don’t Tell You About Blogging
Today is the five-year blogiversary of The Twisted Yarn. I can hardly believe it! If this were a child, they'd be out of nappies and into school. (Heaven help this blog once it's legally old enough to drink.) As always on 23rd October, I'm wheeling out a picture of the cake with which the Stoic Spouse surprised me on my first blogiversary because, well because it was just perfect and wonderful and delicious and, other than the cake via which he proposed marriage way back in 2007, this was Continue Reading
What A Week
This year's Stylecraft Blog Tour has been fun so far. If you've been following along, you'll have seen all sorts of pretty knits and hookings, each one designed by one of the Stylecraft Blogstars, and each reflecting its designer's style and personality. Clearly my own personality is 'Woman who likes looking at dead stuff that drops off trees in autumn'. Thank you for your comments about the pattern (available for free, here). For those of you who asked, I'm going to produce it as a pdf so Continue Reading
What? Another Blogiversary Already?
...But just before I publish the bag pattern at last, another post has rudely sneaked in front. Because today is TheTwistedYarn's second blogiversary! Also, this is my 200th post. OK I confess, this photo is of the cake that the Stoic Spouse secretly commissioned last year, but it was so wonderful that I thought its picture deserved dusting off and airing again, one year on. Man, that cake tasted good. And as surprises go, this was an above-averagely wonderful one. It was made by some folks Continue Reading
The Icing On The Cake
A year ago today I moved into this blog, opened the blinds, looked around at its bare walls and set about putting up some pictures. Then I unpacked a couple of boxes and began to write my first post. Fast forward to today. Well, the place is a little more cluttered, and some of the original boxes I moved in with still haven't been unpacked. Oops. But TheTwistedYarn has become a colourful, happy, lived-in place where I get to talk about knitting, and crochet, and colour, and nature, and Continue Reading
Spring has sprung, the grass is ris… so the poor ol’ Stoic Spouse had to get the lawnmower out
Yes yes yes, kind followers, the ridiculous afghan is nearly done. But I'm at the stage where a single round of stitches takes well over a 50g ball of yarn. That's a lot of stitches, and I've got three more rounds to go. Anyway, the blighter might've been finished already if I hadn't also been doing sneaky preparation for a couple of other projects alongside the magnum opus. Projects of much colour and fluffy fairisle loveliness, I hope. Also the yarn-bomby-housey-thing. And a little (or big) Continue Reading
