See these? These are happy feet. If it weren't for the fact that they're pointing skywards, then they'd probably be dancing. Badly. So be glad that they're safely away from the ground. The reason for their joy is no doubt obvious. It involves some splendidly colourful new sock yarn. You may have heard already, but a few months ago, Stylecraft launched a range of 4-ply sock yarn called Head Over Heels. It's 75% superwash wool and 25% nylon, and it comes in six different marvellously Continue Reading
Yarn Giveaway!
THIS COMPETITION IS NOW CLOSED. THANK YOU FOR YOUR ENTRIES. RESULTS WILL BE ANNOUNCED IN A BLOG POST SHORTLY. Who'd like to win some beautiful hand-dyed yarn, regardless of where in the world you're knitting/hooking? And for those not quite lucky enough to win, who'd like a stonking great discount off said yarn? Do I perchance hear a 'yes' at the back, there? OK, well first let me tell you a little about the yarn in question, because I realize that you're too discerning to grab at any Continue Reading
Socks. And Mint Tea.
Oh, happy feet! Just look at this colourful sockage! (Let's just gloss over what the Stoic Spouse said about my sanity when he found me lying on my back on the hard tiled floor, crunched upwards in order to photograph my own feet.) Yes, these chaps are the Noro Kureyon socks, and I won't mention again the prima donna-ish proclivities of this yarn. The colours are stunningly intense, and the way they slowly shift makes for knitted fabric that's reminiscent of a painted landscape. Happy feet. Continue Reading
A Word On Noro
Ugh, this blog post smells of paint. Sorry about that. I've been painting the sitting room walls and my hair. To be honest, I've been painting the sitting room for the past nine months, budging toys, furniture, guests, and small children out of the way as I went. One of the many, many downsides to this DIY technique is that now that I'm close(ish) to completion, I've noticed that the wall I painted first is getting decidedly scruffy again and could do with, well, a lick of paint. Sigh. Two words Continue Reading
And Then We Disappeared Off To Herefordshire
So anyway, my parents (the Twisted Seniors) have a long-established tradition of pulling up their tent-pegs and moving to a completely different part of the country every 10-15 years or so. They're at it again as we speak, and have just sold their home in beautiful rural Herefordshire, ready to come and share a county with us here in Oxfordshire. With the move imminent, the Toddler Twinnage and I decided to make a may-or-may-not-be-the-last visit to Herefordshire, whilst the Stoic Spouse stayed Continue Reading
Look! A Competition!
whispers Would you like to win lots (and lots) of yarn? In all sorts of near-edible colours? Yes? Well I have to declare an interest in publicising the Stylecraft competition below, because look who is one of the judges, along with Lucy from Attic24 and the editor of Let's Knit magazine! How much fun is it going to be to look through everyone's colourful suggestions and work out what would work best in fibrous form? I'm sitting here willing everyone to let their colourful imaginations run riot. Continue Reading
Confession Time
A confession. (Steel y'selves knitters, this is a B-I-G one.) I have never knitted socks. Sometimes, this makes me feel like a not-proper-knitter, because real knitters have 204 sock patterns committed to memory and neat, colourful sock drawers that look like those displays of rolled neck-ties you get in the menswear sections of upmarket department stores... Don't they? A non-knitting friend of mine once remarked on a knitter he'd observed who always knitted socks. This knitter was, in Continue Reading
