There’s still time to enter the awesome yarn/pattern giveaway, right here and here! (For your bonus Facebook entry, don’t forget to ‘like’ the ‘Yarn’s overall Facebook page, not just the post about this contest.)
Wa-hey, it’s December!
I remember my teacher at primary school telling our class that we Brits are all obsessed with talking about the weather. So it’s my patriotic duty to say right now, Man, it’s COLD! In fact, the mercury has shrunk so shiveringly low in the glass that it’s practically impossible for folk to pass each other in our lane without one of them saying, “A bit chilly, isn’t it?” and the other responding with an exaggerated shiver to imply the profound wisdom and truth of this insight. Also, it’s impossible to go out without encountering the delicious smell of woodsmoke, even at 9am.
Proper cold does at least mean pretty, though frustratingly, it usually means pretty viewed at 70mph as I hurry along the motorway to work, thus forbidden by both the law and the urge to remain alive from stopping to take pictures. Sorry.
Still, I walked back from the school run yesterday with a friend, and even our short stroll yielded some prettiness as we crunched across the frosty grass.
I just wish we could have some SNOW! (The long-range forecast is for cold but dry, so snow is unlikely. Again.)
Meanwhile on a knittier note, I’m proceeding with that project… or rather Mother Twisted (my mum) is. Do you remember the lavender I made for the garden portion from some Stylecraft Batik?
Well she’s made some, too! Thank you Mum.
…So I’m off to plant it in the crochet garden. More pictures to follow!
Stay warm, people. 🙂

Thank you! (On behalf of both me and my mum).

You may have to scent the garden too;-)…kidding, but the lavendar is lovely, enjoy your crochet planting
The Twisted Yarn says
Now THAT is a good idea. But wouldn’t I also have to scent the roses, and the everything-else,-some-of-it-made-up?
dragontearsoflove says
probably…that’s why they made scented oils…you’d also have to refresh from time to time…or pick a favorite english tea garden scent for the entire thing.

A garden made of yarn… how lovely 🙂

Thank you. There’s the house, too. Soon, it will all be joined together.
Mother Twisted says
You’re welcome! I think my lavender is Munstead Blue, or perhaps just the common or garden variety.

It’s very pretty, whatever it is. I’m not sure that this project is entirely horticulturally correct, anyway…

You know you are procrastinating when your mum starts to direct the flow ;). It’s still reasonably cold here as well. I have never been happier to be a southern girl than at the moment as many parts of Australia are enduring extreme heat. I love my 20C summer days and hope that they stay this way for the foreseeable future 🙂
The Twisted Yarn says
Ha, you spotted that! I’m always slow to do the last tiny little bit of any little project.
I know you’re not a fan of heat, so long may your corner of Oz remain a bearable temperature.

In reply, I hope you get that most anticipated snow event. You have been pretty good this year so I hope you get it twice 😉

We talk about the weather all the time down here, too, mostly because we’re treated to a little bit of each season all in the one day. This means your morning tea conversation is all about the torrential rain, your lunch conversation revolves around how hot it suddenly is and you end up walking to the train in a blustering gale that precludes any possibility of discussing its existence with passers-by due to your words being whipped away by said gale.
Your Winter is looking lovely and crisp and oh so photogenic. I’m not feeling too jealous, though; even though we’ve had some lovely warm days lately, I’m fully expecting a frost later in the week. 😀
Love the look of all the yarny lavender! It’s good to have different varieties of lavender in any sort of garden, isn’t it?
Born To Organize says
Oh my it’s cold there. I do love the way a good frost seems to brush everything with a light dust. I love the sound of crunching leaves, too. It’s been many winters since I lived in Canada, but I never forget what it’s like to walk in the snow.
I’m always excited to hear about the yarn cottage update. What a charming bunch of lavender from your Mum. 🙂
