I’ve heard a rumour – and I must stress that at this stage, it remains only a rumour – that it’s nearly Christmas. I know! I bet you’re as gobsmacked as I am!
Most years, Christmas takes me utterly by surprise, despite the fact that its fairly reliable occurrence on 25th December could be said to lend it a certain predictability. Also, some of my friends are the type of sociopaths people who start posting ‘Only 364 days until Christmas!!!‘ on Boxing Day, and the harsher judges amongst you might consider this adequate forewarning. But still I usually accept the coming celebrations only a week or two before the big day… and then wonder why it’s all such a frantic stress. They do say that stupidity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting to get a different result, right? Oops.
Anyway.
This year, I really am trying to mend my ways, at least a little bit. I’m already beginning preparations, just in case the rumour turns out to be true. I’ve even made the Christmas cake, a job that the Stoic Spouse usually tackles, but he seemed happy enough for me to get on with it.
Plus of course, there’s the matter of decorations. We do at least have a ritual of rounding up the twinnage and heading out into the cold to choose a local Christmas tree on the second weekend of December. I’ve posted before (four years ago!) about some of the decorations that I’ve made for the tree. But since then, I’ve designed a fair few knitted and crocheted decorations that can be scattered around the house. OK, I may have spent rather a lot of time browsing for possibilities… But that counts as productive preparation for Christmas, right? Yeah? Anyway, it’s only a rumour. I’m sure Christmas isn’t really just around the corner.
Here on this side of the ocean, Christmas must wait until AFTER Thanksgiving, which is just 7 days away. Already had a Toys for Tots event, and several more scheduled in the next few weeks. We’re old and have no little children in our family, so we like to help out making sure all kids have a happy Christmas.
Not certain, but think England and US celebrate Christmas on the same day, the 25th so be forewarned! It’s sooner rather than later.
Your still in denial dear, it will hit you just as hard as former years I guess. Did you eat from that fruit mix? Just in case you’re do get in the mood, I make salt bread dough Christmas decoration when the boys were little. Planning ( that doesn’t mean it will happen if I’m to busy) to make a Christmas wreath for the doors.Perhaps an idea to make some with the twinnage?
I’ve heard that rumour too! I wonder who started it.
Back in September I felt very organised because I finished my first 3 Christmas presents, but sadly I’ve made nothing at all since then! We really must get a move on soon…
What a scary rumour. I suggest an extra bowl of brandy soaked fruit just in case you need more sustenance if the rumour turns out to be true.
Oh it’s never a good idea to listen to rumours, much less actually believe them. Soon it will be December the 26th then January the 2nd and then there’s only 2018 to get through before next time.
Aaargh! Please don’t tell me that rumour is true. I shall wait until the 15 December to see if it can be verified. Until then……total denial.
