Would you like to see a finished object? Those of you who've been reading here since March 2014 (yes I do recognize you long-termers in the comments) will have seen it already. But as I said in this post seven long years ago, I finished the crochet, but failed to weave in the ends. And I continued not weaving in the ends for a really, really, long time. Slippery cotton takes some restraining, so getting this done was never an appealing prospect. Way back then, my boys were the Toddler Continue Reading
Don’t Try This At Home, Folks. (Also, We Have A Giveaway Winner.)
(The Hiking Moose pattern is nearly done. Maybe next post...) This knitting/crochet thing... it's supposed to be fun, right? Yes? I just thought I'd check, because, y'know, well because of this:- More on that abomination in a moment, but first of all we have a giveaway winner to announce. Remember this beauty? Thank you to the 225 of you who entered before the deadline, and I'm only sorry that there can't be 225 prizes, because this is rather a splendid book. As usual, I numbered all the Continue Reading
Scrawlin’ The Scrawl
Hunched up against the howling autumn gales, I've been knitting. A lot. This will come as a surprise to absolutely nobody who knows me at all. I've been keeping one project semi-secret until now, because I'm writing up the pattern for you, and because I'll probably initially be putting the blimmin' thing 'out there' via a guest post I've got coming up soon on the Deramores blog. (But don't disappear: the free pattern will also appear here, too.) Anyway, the idea came from a simple Continue Reading
We have a winner! (And autumn colour is lurking.)
And.... we have a winner for the signed Arne and Carlos books giveaway! Chosen randomly by the helpful algorithms at random.org, the winner is entrant number 58:- ...which on my list of entrants translates to Mary Beth Wiggins' entry over on Facebook. Wa-hey! Congratulations. :-) I'll be in touch to get your address, and then two lovely shiny signed Arne and Carlos knitting books will be winging their joyful way across the globe to you. Thank you to everyone who entered - you made it Continue Reading
Summer flowers
So, you'll maybe remember that in spring, I made a few collages of seasonal flowers in a rainbow pattern, here and here. T'was fun. Well, the season has marched on, as is its wont. And now we have summer flowers, with green ones even harder to find. Fortunately my lovely, horticulturally-talented neighbour has some green flowers to complete my montage. Witness:- Whilst I'm florally rambling like a wisteria on an ancient thatched cottage, let me tell you about the hollyhocks. I mention Continue Reading
Vest tops and rainbows
Oops, I've been a bit quiet on here. With apologies to my lovely bloggy acquaintances whom I've neglected. Normal chattiness will be restored shortly. Life has irritatingly intervened. I do wish it wouldn't do that. Doesn't it realize that I have priorities? Anyway, I'm still temporarily swerving a little away from the housey theme of this blog, to indulge my longstanding love of Adriafil Knitcol (not to mention my longstanding love of the toddler twinnage ;-) ) and make a few of these in Continue Reading
Rainbow spring flowers
You'll know by now that I have a bit of a fing about rainbows. But if you saw my last post, you'll also know that I'm picking around with lots of little projects at the moment so don't (yet) have any major new knitted housey-ness to show you. Actually I'm taking a mini-break from the house-colouring theme of this blog to knit jumpers for the toddler twinnage in many shades of lovely Adriafil Knitcol. But I've been thinking about rainbows, too, in particular the beautiful spring flowers that are Continue Reading
Um, it’s done.
whispers The rainbow stained glass window afghan is finally finished... whispers more quietly ...Apart from weaving in most of the ends. But what are four thousand flippy-floppy slippery unravelly cottony ends between friends? And won't someone think of the children! Unpicking this beast could keep the toddler twinnage cheerfully occupied for hours. You want to see a picture? (Please don't say no. I'd have to cry, and that might embarrass us both.) A couple of caveats, though, before the Continue Reading
Feeling Blue
The dark blue is done! (Are you new to this marathon-length saga of crochet? I'm referring to this.) The end of the rainbow is nigh. I nearly have a giant rainbow stained glass window afghan with which to cover my scruffy old sofa, or possibly a wall, or possibly both because it's so damn big, and I am more than a little cheery about this little fact. There is only some sewing-in, then some black, then some purple, then some more black, left to go. Most of the afghan has been worked in one Continue Reading
Rainbow railings in progress
Eight out of ten colours done on the monster rainbow stained glass window afghan. Watch this space. Meanwhile, a spot more yarn-bombing, because sometimes a lass needs a break from crocheting round and round (and round) and round a stained glass window. So, I have a plan, now. This:- will be applied right about here, on the tower of our brewery:- So far, we have a few of the railing-cosies:- And we have knitted pigeons:- Watch this space... Continue Reading
