If you’re reading this before noon on the 22nd April, there’s still time to enter the most marvellous SereKNITy giveaway! It’s open worldwide. 🙂
And in other news, I’ve finished making the crochet version of The Hiking Reindeer cowl. (Here’s the pattern for the knit version.) But it’s definitely a moose. The Hiking Moose. Look!
As for why a moose would be hiking over the rolling hills of southern England at dusk, I have no clue: it must have been a really long hike from Canada. I’m just photographing the cowl and writing up the pattern, and then I’ll pop it on here in case any of you want to make one.
This has certainly provided a good illustration of the differences between knitted and crocheted fabric. Same yarns (Stylecraft Head Over Heels ‘Etna’ and Stylecraft Life in ‘Black’), similar(ish) patterns:-
The knitted version is softer and more flexible/stretchy. But the colours seem more vivid in the crochet version, because the stitches are tighter and knottier.
Anyway, the pattern will be landing on your screen within the next week or so.
And for those of you who’ve been reading a’while, there’s been a little progress in my attempts to build a small circular reclaimed-brick patio. So where exactly do I collect my award for Person-Least-Likely-To-Successfully-Undertake-A-Building-Project? Look, it’s nearly done!
The barren twig standing beside it will one day be laden with cherry blossom, and the earth around it will next year be a mass of blooming bulb-life. There’ll also be an unnecessarily-ornate wrought iron bench on which to sit and knit/crochet.
So that, my fine and fibrous friends, is one of the reasons why I haven’t posted The Hiking Moose as yet. One of the reasons. The other reason involves my so-called ‘friends’ talking me into buying some truly crazy novelty yarn and knitting with it, but that’s a story for another post… a post entitled ‘Why I’m No Longer On Speaking Terms With My Evil Ex-Friends’.
